Electric fencing is a popular deterrent in South Africa, but it strictly regulated by the Department of Labour. Installing a non-compliant fence is not only illegal but can leave you liable for injuries.
What is a COC?
A Certificate of Compliance (COC) acts as a guarantee that your electric fence installation complies with the Occupational Health and Safety Act. Without this document, your insurance company may reject a burglary claim.
Key Legal Requirements
- Fences must be marked with yellow warning signs every 10 meters.
- The fence must not be electrified within 1.5m of the ground unless it's behind a physical barrier.
- Energizers must be installed in a safe, accessible location.
- Earth spikes must be installed at specific intervals.
At Global Security Solutions, we issue a COC with every new installation, ensuring you are fully covered.
